RISE OF HITLER 

Weimar Government

  • The Germans were angry at the Weimar Government as they signed the treaty of Versailles

  • Germans called the Weimar Politicians "November Criminals " 

  • The Weimar Government lacked support from the people and struggled to hold on to power and authority .

  • There were strong opposition from the Right and Left wing .

  • As the Weimar Government was a coalition government , different parties within the government could not agree on many issues . 

  • The Weimar Govt also could not solve the economic problems Germany faced at that time 

Hyperinflation

  • Post war Germany struggled with poverty , high unemployment and a weak economy . 

  • The Weimar Government responded to the reparations by printing more money

  • The wealthier Germans lost all their assets overnight 

  • Weimar Government therefore lost the support of many 

Great Depression 

  • Germany was dependent on loans and investments from the USA .

  • Thus the Great depression in 1929 affected Germany's economy greatly 

  • Millions lost their jobs and by 1932, six million were unemployed .

  • The Weimar Govt were ineffective on solving the economic crisis

  • At this point of time , there was a rise in support for more extreme parties like the communist and the nazis 

Money 

  • Wealthy businessen did not Germany to fall into a communist nation like USSR as they will lose their assets , thus they supported the Nazis and gave Hitler funds to run his elections campaigns and propaganda . 

Long Term Bitterness towards TOV

  • The deep anger and resentment Germans had towards the terms of the treaty made Hitler's expansionism aims seemes appealing , thus Hitler gain the support of the people . 

Hitler's Charisma and oratorical skills

  • Hitler was a charismatic and powerful speaker . He was able to use his skills to convinvce people to support the Nazi party 

  • Hitler appeared sincere and seemed to understand the people's concerns
